Ashtanga Yoga Mysore Style Retreat
The practice of Ashtanga Mysore is a style and technique of Yoga that will challenge your self development and progress based on your ability to complete sequences with ease and taking this to a level of subconscious competence.
In simple terms an opportunity to learn very powerful advance to practicing and sharing your yoga skills at an “auto pilot” level! This retreat has been specifically created and designed with our Vikasa team to suit Yoga practice from novice to advanced levels. It is also a very useful complement to any of our teacher training courses with a host of practical and useful training and teaching aids.
Craig Procter has devoted his life and passion to Yoga and with huge wealth of practical and teaching experience and first started practicing and teaching yoga 25 years ago. This is really a wonderful opportunity to learn and share with a true master!
The focus of this retreat is all about taking your practice to a whole new level developing your ability to complete entire sequences with ease and move up to the next level, including practical applications of individual muscle and breath control.
We offer this retreat in our tropical paradise location of Ko Samui; our resort is located on the beautiful shore line nestled on the cliffs facing the ocean and the magnificent bay of Chaweng, amidst a pure and natural lush jungle. Here you can really reap the benefits of natural Prana as well sensational sunrise meditation and yoga sessions in our open air and natural wooden salas!
Your morning class will be Mysore style practice; the traditional way Ashtanga Yoga is taught in India, for those of you not yet familiar with mysore style; this type of practice teachers you to practice at your own pace and time allowing you to go inward more and deeper into the Asanas breathing and muscle control techniques. Having a set sequence like this which gives the teacher more freedom to guide the student in the right direction giving more individual help especially with adjustments and corrections.
Your afternoon class is more of a workshop style recapping and practical applications of the morning session with interactive practical feedback and more practice of various sequences, exploring the body with the breath, moving individual muscles to entirely change the pose and bringing a deeper awareness to your practice are just a sample of some of these powerful practical applications.

This sensational retreat starts at 5 pm with a welcome session where Craig Procter will demonstrate postures from all the 5 Ashtanga sequences.
Only very experienced Yogis are able to complete 3 sequences, even less 5 sequences! So you will have to opportunity to see the amazing possibilities and opportunities to take your practice to a whole new level!
Departure is 12 pm on the last day. You are welcome to arrive early or stay longer.

Craig is living on Koh Samui and has had over 20 years experience with teaching yoga to share.
His spiritual practice began at age 12 when he was taught to meditate by his grandfather. He began practicing yoga when he was 20 in 1989. In 1990 he discovered Ashtanga Yoga with Robert Lucas, the first Ashtanga yoga practitioner in Australia.
Craig’s studies have led him to various teachers around Australia and India including Sri K Pattabhi Jois, and Sharat Rangaswamy. His Asana practice was refined with Shandor Remete, and Simon Borg Oliver, who inspired him with intense and dynamic types of Iyengar practices. To experiment further, he also took classes with B.K.S. Iyengar and studied Pranayama with Shandor Remete and B.N.S Iyengar.
For 18 years Craig taught yoga in Sydney at various schools including North Sydney Yoga, Yoga Mat, Life & Balance and Yoga Moves as one of Eileen Hall’s first assistant teachers. He also taught dancers at Bangarra and Sydney Dance Companies for 10 years.
Craig’s practice advanced to a level where he began to gain employment as a contortionist. He performed for 6 years internationally and nationally with Australian Dance Theatre.
In 1994 Craig began studying Vedic Astrology – Jyotish, this has given him valuable insights into the universal knowledge that is the backbone of the yogic principles of today. He has studied Tantra in India, which is also the foundation on which yoga has come from, and brings this knowledge into his teaching.
He is able to provide an array of different types of yoga from therapy yoga to advanced yoga having walked the path before to a great depth, supporting students in their journey.
